Supporting Pacific Islander-Owned Businesses

Post-pandemic, there was an influx of markets in Oregon that featured all Hawaiʻi and Pacific Islander small businesses and while it was more consistent a few years ago, we are continuing to see a decline in Pacific-Islander representation . With Mākeke Kalikimaka, we welcome ALL vendors, but supporting Pacific Islander-owned businesses will be at the forefront of this program– to create a space that amplifies their expertise, values and all that they have to offer. Through this initiative, KALOHCC hopes to reignite interest and support for Pacific Islander businesses, ensuring their presence is recognized and celebrated on the continent and within our communities.

Creating an event like this reminds us of our kuleana to our community. So many Pacific Islanders have relocated to the Pacific Northwest and it often feels like they have to start over, especially if they have a business. We hope that we can continue to provide platforms such as Mākeke Kalikimaka to stand in solidarity as we all kind of navigate our identity while on the continent, away from our homelands.
